I'm a front-end developer, designer, and technical writer with experience working for small, mission-driven nonprofits and large, global companies.
Select a skill to see what kinds of experience I have in that area.
I am a self-taught developer who loves learning and is looking to take the next step in my development career. I was a UI/UX designer first, but I wanted to move past prototyping and start building.
I bring a human-centered design approach to all my work. Whether I’m designing a UI, writing a help guide, or re-organizing a website, I try to understand the users and their goals, develop and iterate possible solutions, and evaluate the solution I’ve implemented.
Some of the methods I've used to understand users and evaluate solutions include ...
- Contextual interviewing & usability testing
- Card sorting & tree testing studies
- Task and user analysis to develop journey maps and design personas
- Surveys & focus groups
When I'm designing prototypes and mock ups, I like to use ...
- Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
- Pencil and paper
As a technical writer and user content designer, it’s my job to simplify complex concepts and processes.
I’ve written tutorials, how-to guides, and reference documentation and created videos and documentation websites. My favorite part of working in technical communication is acting as an advocate for the customer by pushing for cleaner, more intuitive software that calls for less external documentation.
I treat technical communication and instructional design just like my other work. I start by understanding users and their goals then figure out the best way to help them solve their problems. Sometimes that is a short reference document or explanatory illustration or video clip, and sometimes it means petitioning for a fix in the product.
I love learning and am always looking for new topics to explore. Here are some of the recent online courses I've completed.
